Charles Christopher Cox (born October 16, 1952, in St. Paul, Minnesota) is the former Chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) serving from August 3, 2005 to January 20, 2009. He was a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives from January 25, 1989 to August 2, 2005, representing California's 48th congressional district. He resigned from Congress to become chairman of the SEC. He resigned from the SEC upon the inauguration of President Barack Obama.
